The Essentials

Here’s some of the STUFF that help make out travel lives easier.

The Commute

We like to pack as lightly and compact as possible. Carry-on lightweight and small enough to fit most airline requirements.

Space saving light cases: Samsonite Freeform (sale $140!), Samsonite Novaire, Away Carry-On
All are European airline friendly, have spacious interiors, durable and affordable. Our favorite is the Freeform for its cost and interior capacity. Away being the most costly has a lifetime warranty to offset the initial purchase price but we find its a little less spacious than the comparable Samsonite luggage.
Our favorite luggage sized backpack, the eBag Motherlode, was recently discontinued sadly. We also like this colorful version similar to the Motherlode – a book opening case that’s midsized between the MotherLode and MotherLode Jr: The Cotopaxi Allpa 35L
Emily’s current “personal item” backpack.
Its light, full of compartments and affordable!

Hunter’s current “personal item” backpack.
Lightweight, wipes clean, backpack, tote or crossbody straps make it versatile.

Amazon Basics Medium Packing Cubes
Everything can be organized and packed down efficiently with the help of these. We prefer Medium sized as you can fit 4 snuggly into a roller carryon.
Inflatable Booster Seats: Bubble Bum
Inflatable Booster Seats: Hiccapop UberBoost
The Carseat (and more shhh….) Bag
pack your car seats, diapers, swim gear and more and check for free!
Stay under carry-on weight internationally or checked (gasp) domestic luggage with a portable scale
Reusable version of the TSA compliant quart sized bag but make it stand on its own 🙂
Keep these packed with your travel sized toiletries so they’re immediately ready for the next trip!
Turkish Towels are so versatile! Blanket or folded for a pillow on the plane, later a beach towel that’s sand resistant, or swimsuit coverup!
An ultra lightweight day pack that packs down to the size of a small potato is nice for adventures that you don’t mind getting wet or dirty. It’s a nice back up bag too if you get too many souvenirs and need some more carrying space. Pictured here is the older model of the pack above.
All in one charger are a game changer. Plugs directly into wall and has all the different plugs for each of your devices attached!
The best!
Compact european converter: This little guy had gone to France, Greece, England and Ireland with us! The multiple USB ports allows several devices to charge at once.
Tiny but powerful white noise machine to help kids (and adults) block out hotel noises that can be placed anywhere and without draining a cellphone battery.
Favorite new find! The Wander+ neck pillow! Adjustable for all sizes!

Keep the kids busy

There will come a time all the kids will need are a book, some music or an iPad but until then keeping their little sticky hands busy can be tricky. My crew loved these:

Fresh and Clean

Use laundry sheets to save space and mess of a liquid detergent. Great for washer and handwashing on the fly! We personally love this brand in “lavender” but there’s several different scents. We find this brand our favorite after trialing several for both its scent (some sheets are very low fragrance) and effectiveness.
